Celebrating Oroville's Olive Heritage

Olives have played an important role in the history of Oroville and Butte County for more than a century.

The region became known for its olive production thanks in large part to pioneers such as Freda Ehmann, often recognized as the "Mother of the California Ripe Olive Industry." Her work helped establish California as a leader in olive cultivation and processing, leaving a lasting impact on agriculture throughout the state.

Today, the Olive Festival celebrates this legacy by connecting visitors with the people, products, and stories that continue to shape Butte County's agricultural identity.

Historic Ehmann Home Tours

One of the festival's most popular attractions is the opportunity to tour the historic Ehmann Home, often referred to as the "House That Olives Built."

The home offers visitors a glimpse into Oroville's agricultural past and the legacy of the Ehmann family, whose contributions helped establish California's olive industry.

Festival attendees are encouraged to explore the home and learn more about the history that helped make Oroville an important center of olive production.
