Each winter, tens of thousands of migratory birds descend on the northern Sacramento Valley, transforming the landscape into one of California’s most spectacular wildlife viewing experiences. The Snow Goose Festival celebrates this incredible seasonal migration with four days of guided field trips, workshops, art exhibits, and family-friendly activities across Butte County.
Headquartered at Patrick Ranch Museum, the festival brings together expert naturalists, birding enthusiasts, artists, and nature lovers to experience the beauty, ecology, and diversity of winter birdlife in our region.

Oroville Field Trip Highlights
Feather River Parkway (Sold Out)
- Thursday, January 22, 2026 | 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
- Guided walk along the Feather River focusing on winter waterfowl, gull species, raptors, and riparian habitat
- Approx. 2–3 miles on mostly flat, paved and gravel surfaces
- Optional no-host lunch in Downtown Oroville following the trip
On Foot: Brad Freeman Trail at North Forebay (Sold Out)
- Friday, January 23, 2026 | 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
- Easy walking loop with excellent views of ducks, raptors, songbirds, and waterbirds
- One of Oroville’s premier winter birding locations
Feather River Birds & Bath House
- Friday, January 23, 2026 | 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
- River walk followed by a private visit to the historic Feather River Nature Center Bath House Museum
- Combines birding, local history, and cultural interpretation
Paddle the North Forebay
- Friday, January 23, 2026 | 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
- Guided kayak or paddleboard experience with all equipment provided
- Low-impact wildlife viewing on calm waters
- Suitable for ages 8+ | Rain cancels
Paddle the Thermalito Afterbay
- Saturday, January 24, 2026 | 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
- More advanced paddle for experienced participants
- One of the region’s winter birding hotspots
Paddle the Feather River
- Sunday, January 25, 2026 | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
- Scenic paddle down the Feather River from the Fish Hatchery to Bedrock Park
- Van shuttle included

Her keynote address, From Butterflies & Birds to Bobcats & Bears: Oaks as Nature’s Most Generous Trees, explores the critical role California’s oak ecosystems play in supporting wildlife, biodiversity, and climate resilience — including the birds celebrated during the Snow Goose Festival.
